Rockford Illinois Carrier Loses Big Case
An Independent Contractor for the Rockford Illinois Register Star declined Accident Insurance Coverage, yet attempted to get workers’ compensation for $34,000 in medical bills. Difficult complications for the Newspaper ensued. After 2-years of expensive time consuming litigation, the Carrier received nothing. However, if the Carrier had purchased Accident Insurance, there would have been no litigation. His bills would have been paid and his Independent Contractor Status upheld, thus protecting the Newspaper from litigation.
Local Man Survives Carrier Accident and Bankruptcy
Amando Toledo was unloading Sunday Newspapers from his vehicle when he was hit by a car. Mr. Toledo suffered a partial amputation of his right leg and his left leg was crushed. Subsequent surgeries and rehabilitation resulted in payments reaching $250,000.00 for all medical expenses, plus a single dismemberment payment of $7,500.00 and his weekly disability payments of $5,200.00. Fortunately, for this Independent Contractor, who did not have primary health insurance, he had enrolled in an Accident Insurance program. Net result, Mr. Toledo's medical bills were paid and no litigation ensued.
